With work now well underway on one of Sheffield’s landmark residential developments, we took a closer look at the £43m scheme of luxury apartments at Kelham Riverside and found it set to become one of the city’s hottest new addresses.

Ever since the first flat conversions at Cornish Place got underway almost ten years ago, Kelham Island has been an area earmarked for major urban regeneration. It’s proximity to Sheffield city centre and the eye-catching Victorian architecture made it an enticing location for urban renewal. But once the Kelham Riverside development completes at the end of the summer, the area will have undergone its most major transformation yet. The modern 1 and 2 bedroom apartments are centred around a large courtyard and surrounded by a range of bars, restaurants and shops, making it much more than just a new block of flats. All apartments boast high quality fixtures and fittings, bespoke Italian-designer kitchens and stylish bathrooms, and many also come with large balconies or timber decked terraces with beautiful views of the waterside setting.

Parts of Kelham Island date back 900 years, and many old features such as the goit that housed the wheel to drive Sheffield’s corn mill are being restored to their former glory, giving the area plenty of character. Already home to some great pubs, bars and an award-winning restaurant, The Milestone, the individual and quirky nature of the Island will appeal to a range of buyers while those who want to live in a contemporary environment with peaceful waterside scenery will have the added benefit of being close to the city centre.

The tranquillity of the area is in stark contrast to the city centre just a five minute walk away, but where else would you have the choice to step out of your apartment and meander along the riverfront, meet friends for coffee or check out the local established real ale hostelries – all just a few steps from your front door?

Clive Wilding, director of The Raven Group explains more: “Kelham Island was acknowledged as an area ripe for development and it was The Raven Group who had the vision to see the potential of the island to become an area of the city living market that would stand out from the rest. Kelham Riverside will be a thriving community and the ideal place for young professionals and first time buyers to put down roots and enjoy relaxing waterside living. Over the next few years as it develops into a true urban village it will become a most unique place to live and we’re very excited to see that happen.”

And there’s more good news ahead. With the Raven Group encouraging owner occupiers rather than the buy to let market, they’re helping first time buyers to make that first step into property by offering special purchase deals. Free independent financial advice is also available if required to ensure any inexperienced buyers have the right guidance in what can be a minefield of information.

Anyone interested in an apartment at Kelham Riverside should visit the show suite and sales office which is now open at Prospect House on Alma Street Mondays and Fridays between 10am and 5pm. Tel: 0114 275 6830.
